Null Hypothesis

And there it was, New Year has come to sight. It was ready to haunt us again and make us prepare fruitless new year’s resolutions that won’t even last a week or two. And yet, we still do it, because we insist on hoping that it would work, that it would bear fruits someday; and that insistence is what makes New Year a bit more special.

It’s like every new year we come up with alternative hypotheses that we wish could happen; but then, the null hypothesis that we didn’t even come up with is what usually happens. It is scary, but we just have to try anyways, right?

We say “New Year, New Me” as if we are reborn at such time, as if we are to be in another manifestation of oneself after the new year begins, as if we are able to commit and subject ourselves into a drastic life change for the next twelve months, as if we are able to be completely different persons when the clock strikes at midnight on the 31st of December.

But we don’t change, the true essence of being ourselves are still there and the people that get to spend a lot of time with us like family, friends, colleagues, coworkers, and classmates notice the fact that there is no change deep inside us and into our personality despite how changed we can be in the outside.

Conquering that inside and changing the very foundations of our personality, is a difficult task to do because we crumble into pieces when we destroy the very core of being ourselves. We risk destroying what makes us the person who we are.

However, we can change little by little, chiseling off a bit of the foundations of our personality and replacing it with stronger stone. This is how we grow as a person, our personal growth relies on us making these little edits on the core foundations of our very own personality.

I am currently chiseling off bits of the foundations of my personality and replacing it with new stone. It is an ongoing process, and I can say it would be slow and steady but it would yield a result better than my previous attempts in achieving new year’s resolutions.

Change is not a one-click button nor a two-minute dress change, it is a slow and gradual process of chiseling off bits and replacing them. Achieving a new you in the new year demands a tremendous amount of patience and a hefty ton of commitment to execute such drastic actions in our lives. Don’t let your Null Hypothesis happen, remember that.

Let’s strive to achieve our new year goals! 🦖

Thank you for stretching your attention span long enough to read until the very end! 🧡
